A New York couple has been arrested after authorities alleged that their actions led to a fire being intentionally set inside their home while their five children were still inside.
Dale Oneal, 49, and his wife, Aubree Oneal, 47, face multiple charges stemming from the Saturday, July 18, blaze in the Onondaga County village of Minoa, according to court and jail records.
Investigators with the Manlius Police Department allege the couple “took actions” that caused the fire to be deliberately started inside the residence, Syracuse.com and CNY Central reported.
All five of the couple’s children, each under the age of 17, were inside the home when the flames broke out.
Dale reportedly managed to extinguish the fire, and the entire family escaped without suffering physical injuries.
Police later responded to a separate dispute and allegedly found Aubree intoxicated, according to the department.
Neighbors said the fire spread with terrifying speed.
Debbie Narovella and John Sobotka Jr. were sitting on their porch when Narovella noticed flames coming from the Oneals’ porch.
“We looked and before we could even call 911, it had gone all the way up through the roof,” Sobotka told CNY Central.
Both Dale and Aubree have been charged with reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child and conspiracy, according to jail records.
Aubree is also facing an arson charge. Her bail was set at $100,000.
Online records did not indicate whether she had entered a plea. Her attorney declined to comment.
Dale’s court docket was not publicly available as of Thursday afternoon, and it was unclear whether he had entered a plea or hired an attorney.
