A desperate search is underway in Georgia for two young sisters who police believe were abducted by their babysitter and may be in “extreme danger.”
Norah Cooper, 11 months old, and her 4-year-old sister, Zola Cooper, were reported critically missing after they were last seen with 42-year-old Lakesha Brown, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
Police said they believe Brown abducted the children.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation later issued a Levi’s Call — Georgia’s version of an Amber Alert — on behalf of Atlanta police.
Investigators said the sisters were last seen with Brown at 356 James P. Brawley Drive NW at around 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15.
Authorities believe Brown may be traveling with the girls in a white 2009 Ford F-350 with Alabama license plate IC087Y4.
The vehicle may be headed toward southwest Atlanta, according to the GBI.
Officials warned that both children are believed to be in “extreme danger.”
Norah has black hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a pink onesie.
Police said the 11-month-old is about 2 feet tall and weighs approximately 28 pounds.
Authorities also noted that Norah is missing two fingers on her right hand — her index and middle fingers — a distinctive detail that could help identify her.
Zola also has black hair and brown eyes.
The 4-year-old was last seen wearing a multicolored dress, police said.
She is approximately 3 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs around 42 pounds.
Police are now working to determine where Brown may have taken the girls and are asking the public to immediately report any sightings.
The babysitter may also have a troubling history.
Atlanta police told FOX 5 that investigators believe Brown is the same woman who was arrested on a kidnapping charge in Jefferson County, Alabama, in 2021.
The outcome of that earlier case was not immediately clear.
Anyone who sees Norah, Zola or Brown is urged not to wait and to call 911 immediately.
Anyone with information about the girls’ disappearance can also contact the Atlanta Police Department at 470-218-5001.
Tips can also be provided to the department’s Special Victims Unit at 404-546-4260 or Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477).
Authorities are continuing to search for the sisters as the Amber Alert remains active.
