A Texas mother was arrested after police conducting a welfare check allegedly found her three children living in filthy and unsafe conditions inside a Nacogdoches home.
Keosha Hubbard-Woodson, 28, was taken into custody on Sunday, Aug. 9, after officers visited the residence and discovered what they described as dangerous living conditions, according to local reports citing an arrest affidavit.
Hubbard-Woodson, who was described by police as the children’s caregiver, was charged with three counts of endangering a child.
Investigators said the home was filled with an “extreme amount of trash” and contained rotting food, a heavy insect infestation and feces believed to be from either a person or an animal.
Police also said the home had no running water.
The children reportedly did not have beds or access to suitable sleeping and living areas.
According to the affidavit, the kids were also found wearing visibly dirty clothing.
Authorities said the children appeared to have untreated medical problems, including skin conditions and severe stomach pain.
Emergency medical crews were called to the home to evaluate and treat the children.
Child Protective Services later took custody of all three kids following Hubbard-Woodson’s arrest.
Police have not publicly released the ages of the children.
As of Aug. 17, Hubbard-Woodson was being held in the Gregg County Jail without bond, according to local reports.
It was not immediately clear whether she had retained an attorney.
The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services has also been contacted for comment as authorities continue reviewing the case.
