An Illinois mother is accused of killing her 2-year-old son just hours after reportedly discussing the high-profile Lindsay Clancy murder trial with friends.

Corie A. Walsh, 40, was charged Tuesday, Sept. 1, with three counts of first-degree murder in connection with the death of her toddler son, Barrett Walsh, according to court records and local reports.

Police were called to a home in the 22700 block of Brook Stone Court in Frankfort shortly after 4 p.m. after receiving a report of an injured and unresponsive child.

When officers arrived, a neighbor was performing CPR on Barrett, who was affectionately known as “Bear.”

According to prosecutors, the neighbor had found the toddler hanging by his neck from a rafter in the basement, with his feet above the ground.

Authorities later found Walsh upstairs in a bathtub suffering from knife wounds believed to have been self-inflicted. Her injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

Prosecutors allege Walsh believed her young son was the “anti-Christ” and the “devil,” according to court documents cited by Fox News.

Witnesses also reportedly told investigators that Walsh had recently become deeply interested in the murder trial of Massachusetts mother Lindsay Clancy.

Walsh had allegedly been actively discussing the Clancy case in a group text message with friends just hours before her son was found dead.

Clancy, a 36-year-old former labor and delivery nurse, was accused of strangling her three children — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan — with exercise bands inside the family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts, home in January 2023.

Clancy then jumped from a second-story window in an apparent suicide attempt, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down.

Her closely watched trial ended Friday, Sept. 4, when jurors were unable to reach a unanimous verdict and the judge declared a mistrial. Prosecutors have not yet announced whether they plan to try the case again.

An attorney representing Walsh said the married mother of four was experiencing a “psychotic episode” at the time of the alleged killing.

“This is a tragedy for the Walsh family, all of whom are mourning the loss of this child,” the attorney said in a statement obtained by ABC 7 Chicago.

Walsh remains in custody while receiving medical treatment.

Attorneys for Walsh did not immediately respond to additional requests for comment.

  1. This is one sick woman!
If she was influenced by the results
of the Clancy trial as an excuse to
kill her innocent child, she deserves to
spend the rest of her life in prison !
I am sure other women inmates will
make sure she regrets the day
    she killed her precious little
