A deadly shooting inside a North Carolina home left two women dead and two others critically injured, while police say the two main suspects later died following a multi-state chase.
Victoria “Heather” Moore, 50, and Megan “Josiah” Moore, 38, were identified as the two women killed Thursday inside a home in Gastonia, just outside Charlotte.
Gaston County Police said Camryn Moore, 26, and Cory Armstrong, 29, were the main suspects in the shooting.
According to public records and social media posts, Camryn was Victoria’s daughter.
Police said Camryn and Armstrong lived at the home and fled after the shooting.
Two other victims were also found inside the house and were taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.
Authorities planned to charge both suspects with two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
The U.S. Marshals Service joined the search as investigators worked to track the pair across state lines.
On Friday, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers located their vehicle and tried to pull it over.
Police said the suspects refused to stop and led officers on a pursuit.
Troopers eventually deployed spike strips, and the vehicle crashed while apparently trying to avoid them.
Officers then reported hearing two gunshots from inside the vehicle.
A drone was used to inspect the car, where Camryn and Armstrong were found dead.
Authorities have not publicly released additional details about exactly how they died.
Back in Gastonia, police said officers were originally called to the home after receiving a 911 report of a shooting near Forbes Road.
When officers arrived, they found four people who had been shot.
A neighbor later told WSOC-TV that they heard five or six gunshots.
Gaston County Police described the case as a “tragic act of violence” and thanked the U.S. Marshals Service, Ohio State Highway Patrol and other agencies that helped locate the suspects.
Police said cooperation between local, state and federal authorities was critical in tracking the pair across multiple jurisdictions.
“Although the search for the suspects has ended, our investigation has not,” the department said.
Victoria reportedly worked in data processing for a commerce company and had previously spoken publicly about how much her family meant to her.
In a company profile, she said she had five children — four daughters and one son — and described spending time with them watching outdoor movies, making s’mores around the firepit and having game nights.
She also talked about living in a large farmhouse with several acres and plenty of animals, calling it her “happy place.”
Victoria had previously shared a photo of herself having dinner with three of her daughters, including Camryn.
Police have not publicly revealed what may have led to the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
