Cameron Frierson

Four teenagers have been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 16-year-old Nashville high school student who was gunned down after attending a football game.

Cameron Frierson was walking near Pearl-Cohn High School on the night of Aug. 21 when multiple shots were fired from a passing vehicle around 10:30 p.m.

Responding officers found Cameron lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds.

He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he died shortly after arriving.

After a six-week investigation, Nashville police announced the arrests of four teens in connection with his death.

They were identified as Jon’quavous Johns-Collins, 18, who was 17 at the time of the shooting; Marcelle Stem Jr., 17; Lil Tay Webster, 17; and Zachkeius Brown, 16.

All four have been charged in Juvenile Court with criminal homicide and engaging in a criminal conspiracy.

Investigators say the four teens were inside a vehicle when multiple shots were fired in Cameron’s direction.

Police previously said witnesses described the vehicle as a white sedan with tinted windows.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

Cameron, a junior at Hunters Lane High School, had been at a football game at Pearl-Cohn High School earlier that evening.

His family said he was walking with his younger brother, Chris, when the gunfire erupted.

Chris managed to run away from the shots.

When he returned, he found Cameron wounded on the ground.

“When he came back, his brother was on the ground,” Cameron’s mother, Brittany Frierson, said.

She described Cameron as a loving, funny and ambitious teenager who had plans for his future.

“He was a superstar. He was bright, funny, caring,” she said.

His family has said they do not believe Cameron knew the people responsible for the shooting.

Cameron’s father, Chris Frierson, said the family learned just how many lives their son had touched after his death.

“I knew my son had a lot of friends, but now I know that he had friends everywhere,” he said. “Every school, every side of town, he had a friend, and he was well-liked and loved.”

Cameron is survived by his parents and five siblings.

His mother said the family’s life changed forever in a matter of seconds.

“Cameron was just doing what so many high school students do on a Friday night — enjoying a football game,” she said.

Police said Detective Holly Davis led the homicide investigation with help from the department’s Homicide Unit, Specialized Investigations Division and Youth Services Division.

The arrests came exactly six weeks after Cameron was killed.
