Jesse Huy, 50, of Strafford, Mo., pleaded guilty to killing his wife, her mother and stepfather because ‘they wouldn’t leave.’

Minutes before his trial was set to begin, Huy pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of armed criminal action.

Investigators say Huy killed his wife, Tonya F. Huy, 48, of Strafford, and her parents Ronald L. Koehler, 71, and Linda J. Koehler, 78, in March 2021. The Koehlers were residents of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The crime happened at Huy’s home in southern Missouri.

Investigators first became aware of the crime, they said, when Huy called police on March 19 to report that he killed three family members inside his home. All were shot as they sat at the kitchen table with a 9mm that police said was later discovered in Huy’s truck.

A dispatcher asked Huy why he did it, and reported this as his response: “well, they wouldn’t leave. I’ve been waiting for a week for them to leave. I’ve had enough.”

“I got tired of it and killed all three of them,” he reportedly told the deputies.

The in-laws were reportedly visiting to help Huy’s wife as she recovered from back surgery. Each victim was shot twice in the head.
