A man and his wife went for a walk when she told him she had been cheating. His response was to grab a log and beat her to death.

Now, the killer faces decades behind bars.

This month, an Ohio jury found Santiago Martinez guilty of murder for the 2021 death of his wife, Alexandra Berrios. She was killed in 2021, according to the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office.

Martinez is set to be sentenced at a later date.

Martinez testified that he and his wife were taking a walk in Darby Creek Metro Park in Franklin County, Ohio, on March 22, 2021, according to prosecutors. That is when Berrios told him that she had been unfaithful years earlier while he lived in the U.S. and she was in El Salvador.

The suspect then grabbed a log and beat his wife to near death.

She was in a vegetative state and remained that way until she died on May 2, 2021, prosecutors noted.

Martinez said he and his wife were in the middle of divorce proceedings at the time of the incident.

When authorities found the victim, she had multiple cuts, lacerations and a broken skull, according to WBNS. She was taken to the hospital, where she later died.

Martinez was arrested and initially charged with attempted murder and felonious assault. Those charged were upgraded to murder when the victim died.

At sentencing, Martinez faces a minimum of 15 years in prison and up to life behind bars.
