A tragic hit-and-run accident in Ogden, Utah, has left a 63-year-old man dead, while the driver responsible washed his car at a nearby car wash before leaving the scene.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 30, around 5 p.m. when 21-year-old Christian Hernandez Palma struck Stirling Kelso, who was cleaning the car wash’s parking lot. Kelso was pronounced dead at the scene, and Palma fled before police arrived. Authorities noted that Kelso was not an employee of the car wash, and the reason for his presence there remains unclear.

Security footage from the car wash reportedly shows a gray Lexus entering the premises and hitting Kelso, who was on the ground at the time. After the collision, Palma washed his car just a few feet away from Kelso’s body. In a statement to police, he claimed he was “scared and didn’t know what to do.”

A bystander questioned Palma about the incident, but he stated he was unaware of what had happened. Following the incident, police were able to identify Palma through a truck driver who had a company logo on his vehicle. They located Palma’s Lexus in the company’s parking lot, where it showed signs of damage consistent with a collision.

Palma was arrested shortly thereafter and was found to be in possession of a fake U.S. permanent resident ID and did not have a valid driver’s license.

Kelso’s daughter, Misty, confirmed her father’s identity and shared memories of him. “I just talked to him last night. He loves eagles—he’s an eagle man, and he collects anything with eagles. He’s going to be flying with the eagles,” she said.

Palma has been booked into Weber County Jail facing multiple charges, including felony hit and run, driving without a license, and failure to maintain a safe lookout.
