A 23-year-old Utah man is facing a staggering 28 charges after allegedly terrorizing a Millcreek family for nearly six months with threats, abuse, and claims of cartel connections.
Dominic Garcia was arrested on May 17 and booked into Salt Lake County Jail. According to court documents, he is charged with seven counts each of aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, threats of violence, and hazing with a dangerous weapon.
Authorities were called to a Millcreek home after a desperate 911 call revealed a horrifying situation: a man, along with six family members, was being held against their will by Garcia, the boyfriend of the family’s pregnant daughter. The father, identified in court papers as “RS,” told police they had finally snapped and were holding Garcia at gunpoint until help arrived.
Garcia was taken into custody without resistance.
The disturbing saga reportedly began in December 2024 when the family allowed Garcia to move in. Within days, Garcia allegedly claimed that his family was part of a business tied to a Mexican drug cartel and told them that to stay alive, they had to obey him completely.
He allegedly warned them repeatedly that the cartel would kill them if they didn’t comply. In response, RS bought a gun for protection—but Garcia soon began carrying it himself, using it to intimidate the household.
One day, Garcia claimed his family had made a bad deal with the cartel, and forced the victims to leave their home for over a month. When they returned, a family member referred to as “HS” texted a friend about their disappearance. Garcia found out and reportedly reacted with violent threats, saying he would kill them all if they spoke out.
HS was then subjected to a twisted “boot camp,” forced to perform up to five intense workouts per day at random hours, take ice baths, and hold her face underwater until she couldn’t breathe. Another family member, “AS,” said she was only allowed to leave the house three times and had to stand watch until 5:30 a.m. every night.
Seventeen-year-old “TS” missed a full month of her senior year of high school and told investigators she lived in constant fear for her life.
Garcia’s pregnant girlfriend, “KS,” claimed he frequently threatened to kill her and her entire family, choked their pet dogs during fits of rage, and physically abused her sister HS.
When police questioned him after his arrest, Garcia reportedly admitted the cartel story was a complete fabrication. He said he didn’t know how to end the lie because he was afraid the family wouldn’t like him anymore.
Garcia is now being held without bail. The affidavit argues he is a flight risk and could flee to family members in Mexico. The victims remain fearful, with multiple family members saying they believe Garcia—and possibly even the cartel—could still come after them.
