A Washington man is behind bars after allegedly killing his father and brother, then setting their home on fire in a twisted attempt to cover up the crime.

Authorities say 25-year-old Luis Miguel Huitron Campos has been charged with two counts of first-degree aggravated murder and one count of first-degree arson following the deaths of his father, 64-year-old Oliverio Huitron-Rosalez, and his brother, 31-year-old Alejandro Huitron Campos. The charges stem from a fire that broke out on April 8 at the family’s home in Gig Harbor, located on the 15600 block of 14th Avenue Northwest.

When firefighters arrived that evening, the house was already engulfed in flames. Two men were pulled from the burning structure—both later identified as Oliverio and Alejandro. But what at first looked like a tragic house fire quickly turned into a murder investigation.

According to an affidavit and medical examiner reports, both victims had been shot in the back of the head before the fire started. The fire marshal determined the blaze began in the home’s bedrooms and was likely set intentionally. A gas can, lighter, bloodstains, and a shell casing were found at the scene.

Further examination revealed Oliverio was still alive when the fire started, based on carbon monoxide found in his blood. He had also been shot at close range. Alejandro was found with his arms and fists in a defensive position, also showing signs of close-range gunfire.

As investigators interviewed family members and reviewed cell phone data, suspicion turned toward Luis. According to KOMO News, records showed his phone had pinged in the vicinity of the house around the time of the fire. They also discovered Luis had been issued a concealed-pistol license in December 2024 and had purchased a Heckler & Koch handgun.

The Washington State Patrol Crime Lab later matched a shell casing and a bullet from the scene to the same make and model of firearm Luis had purchased.

Family members told investigators that Luis never reached out to police after learning of the deaths and didn’t show up to either of the memorial services. In fact, some relatives said they didn’t even know where he was during that time. KOMO News reported that the family was told Luis had “disappeared.”

Adding another layer to the case, investigators learned that Oliverio had recently requested to withdraw $100,000 from his retirement savings and owned property in Mexico that was undergoing construction. Relatives said he had accumulated significant wealth over three decades of investing.

Luis was arrested by a SWAT team on May 20. He pleaded not guilty in court the following day and is currently being held on a $5 million bond. It remains unclear if he has retained legal counsel.
