A trip to a Marshalls store in Kearny, New Jersey, turned violent when an argument between two shoppers escalated into a stabbing in the parking lot.
Police arrested 25-year-old Amber Johnson on October 11 after she allegedly bought a set of knives inside the store and then used one to stab another woman, according to ABC 7 and Cleveland 19.
Investigators say Johnson became angry because the woman ahead of her was taking too long at the checkout counter. She allegedly threatened to harm her, purchased the knives, and followed the woman outside as she walked to her car with her family. That’s when Johnson allegedly attacked, stabbing her multiple times.
Police found Johnson hiding in a store bathroom after the incident. A bloody knife was recovered from a nearby changing station, according to the reports.
The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Johnson has been charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated assault. The investigation is ongoing.
In a statement to ABC 7, a Marshalls spokesperson said they were aware of the incident and emphasized that “the safety and security of our Associates and customers is important to us.” They also thanked the Kearny Police Department for its quick response.
