A convicted sex offender who allegedly faked his own death and spent 13 years on the run has finally been captured. Anthony Lennon, once named one of Oklahoma’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives, was arrested in Canton, New York, just before Halloween.

Authorities say Lennon staged his disappearance in 2012, leaving behind a bloody scene at the Super 8 Motel in Moore, Oklahoma, where he worked. Police allege he tried to make it look like he had been abducted. “He went to extremes, and we did determine that the large amount of blood at the staged crime scene actually was his,” Moore Police Chief Todd Gibson said.

Lennon was first convicted in 2008 on charges of aggravated child pornography and received a 20-year suspended sentence. In 2011, authorities discovered he allegedly possessed additional child pornography, including chat logs, a desktop computer, and stacks of CDs containing images of children being violently abused. He was arrested again but released on bond, and in 2012 vanished.

Despite evading capture for more than a decade, Moore Police detectives and U.S. Marshals continued tracking him. They finally located him in Canton, New York, where he had enrolled at SUNY Canton under the alias Justin Phillips. Fingerprint analysis confirmed his true identity.

U.S. Marshal Johnny Kuhlman said Lennon’s whereabouts remained a mystery for years, but investigators are now looking into whether he committed additional crimes while on the run. “Search warrants are being run in New York on devices and residences, and we will see what they reveal to see if future crimes have been committed,” he said.

Lennon is currently being held in New York as authorities prepare to extradite him to Oklahoma. The investigation remains active, and officials say they are ready to hold him accountable for his past crimes against children.
