A Michigan doctor was sentenced to 35 to 60 years in prison after secretly recording his wife, their young children, and multiple female relatives, shocking the community and raising serious questions about trust and abuse of power.
Oumair Aejaz, 41, was sentenced Tuesday, December 2, in Oakland County Sixth Circuit Court after pleading no contest to all 31 counts of sexual misconduct, prosecutors said.
“This sentence ensures Oumair Aejaz will never again harm another victim,” Prosecuting Attorney Karen D. McDonald said. “However, the damage he inflicted upon his victims will not go away with this resolution. We must continue to support them as they move forward from this trauma.”
Aejaz, who previously worked at Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc Township and Henry Ford Hospital Macomb in Clinton Township, was convicted of multiple charges, including first- and second-degree criminal sexual conduct, child sexually abusive commercial activity, using a computer to commit a crime, and capturing or distributing images of unclothed persons.
The investigation began in August 2024 when Aejaz’s wife came forward with evidence that he had been secretly recording her, their two minor children, and other female relatives in their home. Authorities discovered that Aejaz also recorded children and adults at Goldfish Swim School in Rochester Hills and in hospital rooms using hidden cameras.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard condemned the actions. “The exploitation of women and children—especially when he used his trusted position as a physician—is absolutely unconscionable,” he said. “This sentence reflects the gravity of his crimes and delivers the justice these victims deserve.”
The case has sparked multiple ongoing investigations. In October, three separate women filed lawsuits alleging that Aejaz recorded and sexually assaulted them at Henry Ford Hospital, claiming the hospital ignored their complaints.
“There is a class action ongoing, but these people felt that their rights were not adequately represented, and they wanted individual claims,” said attorney Matthew Piccirilli, representing the accusers.
Authorities urge anyone affected by sexual abuse to seek help. If you or someone you know has been a victim, you can reach a certified crisis counselor by texting “STRENGTH” to 741-741.
