A woman accused of hiding razor blades and a fishing hook inside baked goods at multiple Walmart stores in Biloxi, Mississippi, has been arrested, police say.
Camille Benson, 33, of Texas, is facing a charge of attempted mayhem, according to the Biloxi Police Department. She is currently being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center, where her bond has been set at $100,000.
Concerns first surfaced earlier this month when a Walmart employee contacted police on December 5 after a customer reported finding a razor blade inside a loaf of bread purchased from the store’s bakery. A second complaint followed on December 8, with more reports coming in over the next several days, including claims that razor blades were discovered in muffins.
During their investigation, store employees found signs that several packages had been tampered with. Police say the razor blades appeared to have been pushed into the bread from the outside, suggesting deliberate interference.
Investigators later released surveillance images showing Benson leaving a Walmart store and identified her as a person of interest. She was arrested Tuesday after police received a tip that she had been spotted in the 1000 block of Division Street. Authorities have not yet determined a motive.
Police said the affected locations include a Walmart Supercenter on CT Switzer Sr Drive and a Walmart Neighborhood Market on Pass Road. Investigators do not believe any other Walmart stores were involved.
The Biloxi Police Department is urging anyone who purchased bread or baked goods from those locations to carefully inspect the items and report anything suspicious.
Walmart addressed the situation in a statement, saying customer safety remains its top priority. The company said all potentially affected products were removed and thoroughly inspected at the Biloxi stores, and that it is cooperating fully with law enforcement.
Customers who believe a bakery item purchased in Biloxi may have been tampered with are advised to discard the product immediately and visit their local Walmart for a full refund.
