A Colorado man working as an Amazon delivery driver was restrained by dental office staff and patients after allegedly attacking a receptionist during a delivery, according to police.

Michael Dewey Coleman, 31, was arrested Monday and is being held at the Jefferson County Jail following the incident at Emerald Dental in Lakewood, Colorado. Police say Coleman arrived at the office around 3 p.m. to deliver a package. Instead of leaving after the drop-off, he allegedly grabbed a 21-year-old receptionist by the face with both hands and attempted to kiss her.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by local station KMGH, the woman tried to protect herself by blocking her face and striking Coleman to push him away. Police say Coleman then lifted her from her chair by her clothing, exposing her and attempting to tear her clothes. Witnesses told investigators he appeared to be trying to sexually assault her and also grabbed her from behind.

After the woman fell back to the ground, she kicked Coleman, police say. He then allegedly punched her in the face, breaking her nose. The victim told officers she was struck multiple times during the attack.

A patient waiting in an exam room heard screaming and ran to the front desk, where he reportedly saw Coleman wearing a blue Amazon vest pulling at the employee’s dress. When the patient tried to intervene, Coleman allegedly punched him as well. A male dental hygienist also stepped in, and together the two men tackled Coleman and held him down until police arrived.

Officers reached the scene within minutes and reported that Coleman appeared disoriented and in an altered mental state. Police said he was sweating, growling, and appeared confused about where he was, initially believing he was in Texas. He later became more coherent and acknowledged his location.

Dr. Stephanie Paswaters, the owner of Emerald Dental, told local station KDVR that she witnessed the aftermath of the attack. She said she heard escalating screams and calls for help before realizing one of her front desk employees was being attacked by a delivery driver. Paswaters said the incident deeply traumatized both staff and patients, forcing the office to close for several days.

The victim suffered a broken nose and two black eyes, and police believe she may also have been strangled during the attack.

Amazon confirmed that Coleman was delivering packages through a third-party service and said he is no longer delivering for the company. The company stated it is cooperating fully with the investigation.

Coleman has been charged with sexual assault, unlawful sexual contact, second-degree assault, third-degree assault, two counts of criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, and harassment. He remains in custody on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on December 22.
