A routine trip to the grocery store turned into a terrifying scene after a pregnant mom was randomly attacked in broad daylight — all while her young child stood nearby.
Police say the shocking incident happened March 18 in the parking lot of a Harris Teeter in Charlotte, North Carolina.
According to investigators, the woman was walking with her 3-year-old child when a stranger suddenly approached and stabbed her — despite having no prior connection to the victim.
“The victim and the suspect did not know each other,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Detective Ashley Phillips said while explaining the case.
Officers responded to the scene just before 11:30 a.m. and found the pregnant victim suffering from non-life-threatening injuries. She told police she had been stabbed without warning.
Authorities have identified the suspect as Marvina Butler-Hardy, who is now facing serious charges, including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury, as well as battery of an unborn child.
Witnesses say the incident left the community shaken.
“The amount of cop cars and then hearing my coworkers talk about it, that really took me aback,” said one nearby worker. “I had no idea something like that would happen up here at all.”
Another described the attack as something straight out of a horror movie — a random act of violence in a place where people felt safe.
After the stabbing, police say Butler-Hardy fled the scene in a Hyundai Elantra and drove out of state.
Days later, she was stopped by Florida state troopers near Jacksonville after they noticed a large crack in her windshield. During the stop, she reportedly handed over a North Carolina ID instead of a driver’s license.
At the time, troopers were already on alert for a vehicle matching that description tied to the Charlotte stabbing.
Once her identity was confirmed, she was taken into custody.
Authorities say she is now awaiting extradition back to North Carolina, where she will face charges in Mecklenburg County. A court date has not yet been set.

Why are these nasty skanks so violent?
I have wondered the very same thing. It makes you want to go out of your way when getting near a black woman. Drugs? I wish I knew, but it happens much too often.
