Tatyana Remley, the California equestrian convicted in a shocking murder-for-hire plot against her estranged husband, has died by suicide. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Remley, 27, died from a gunshot wound to the head on December 18, 2025. Her death has been ruled a suicide.

Remley’s legal troubles began in 2023, when she was arrested after allegedly attempting to hire an undercover officer to kill her estranged husband, Mark Remley. The case began after a house fire at the couple’s ranch in Del Mar, California, prompted an investigation by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. Initially, Remley was arrested on firearms charges after deputies found multiple guns and ammunition in her possession.

Further investigation revealed that Remley had been plotting to have her husband killed. Authorities claim she provided detailed instructions on how she wanted Mark Remley murdered and his body disposed of, even offering a down payment in the form of cash. Mark Remley later told The Coast News that his wife had tried to enlist a mutual friend to carry out the killing, offering $2 million for the job. When the friend refused and reported the plot to the police, a sting operation was set up, and Remley was caught meeting with an undercover officer at a local Starbucks.

In addition to the murder-for-hire charges, Remley faced arson charges related to the fire at the couple’s ranch. While she claimed she was unaware of how the fire started, Mark Remley suspected it had been deliberately set after he discovered his wife’s plot to have him killed.

Remley, who had a tumultuous relationship with her husband marked by multiple separations and reconciliations, was sentenced in December 2023 to three years and eight months in state prison after pleading guilty to solicitation to commit murder. She was scheduled to return to court for further hearings in 2026.
