An Alabama man with a long and violent criminal record has been sentenced to spend the rest of his life behind bars after being convicted of brutally beating and raping a woman he was dating.

According to the 19th Circuit District Attorney’s Office, 41-year-old Corey Oliver of Thorsby was sentenced on Dec. 3 to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Prosecutors said a jury convicted Oliver in July for a 2018 attack in which he beat, strangled, and raped the victim at knifepoint. The woman was dating Oliver at the time of the assault, authorities said.

District Attorney CJ Robinson described Oliver as a repeat offender whose criminal behavior escalated over time. According to Robinson, Oliver has more than 10 prior felony convictions and roughly 40 total arrests, starting with drug and property crimes and later evolving into violent sexual offenses.

“Corey Oliver had been a menace for my entire career,” Robinson said in a statement following the sentencing. He alleged that Oliver repeatedly avoided accountability in past cases by intimidating victims, leading some to refuse to cooperate with prosecutors or change their statements during legal proceedings.

Robinson praised the judge for imposing the maximum sentence.

“Today was a great day as we watched a serial rapist and child molester be sent away to never have the opportunity to sexually assault another woman or child again,” he said.

According to AL.com, the 2018 rape was not reported to prosecutors until 2024, which ultimately led to Oliver’s indictment and trial.

The district attorney’s office said it worked closely with the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office to bring the case forward and secure the conviction.

Robinson said the sentence ensures Oliver’s “path of destruction” has finally come to an end.

Oliver will spend the remainder of his life in an Alabama prison.
