An elderly blind man was unknowingly taken on a terrifying ride through Queens after a car thief jumped into his son’s idling vehicle and drove off with him still inside, authorities and family members said.

The bizarre carjacking happened around 7:15 p.m. Saturday in Long Island City. Police say a 34-year-old man parked his Subaru outside a Target near the intersection of 44 Drive and 23 Street and left the engine running while he ran inside the store. His 72-year-old father, who is blind, remained seated in the back of the car.

Moments later, an unidentified suspect allegedly hopped into the vehicle and sped away — completely unaware, or unconcerned, that the elderly man was still inside.

According to police, the victim had no idea he was being carjacked.

“He was in the car, but he’s blind — he didn’t know what was happening,” the man’s wife said. “He didn’t complain because he wasn’t really aware.”

She said the thief never spoke to her husband during the drive, leaving him confused as the car moved away from the store.

“He kept calling my son, but nobody answered,” she said.

When the son exited Target and realized both his car and father were gone, he immediately panicked and called police.

“He left his dad in the car, and when he came back, everything was gone,” the woman said. “The car was gone, and my husband was gone too.”

Police later located the stolen Subaru nearly three miles away in Maspeth, at the intersection of 53 Avenue and 44 Street. The elderly man was found inside the vehicle and was not injured.

Authorities said the suspect remains at large and the investigation is ongoing.

The man’s wife expressed outrage over the incident, calling for accountability.

“They must go to jail,” she said. “What they did was not right.”

Police are urging anyone with information about the carjacking to contact the NYPD as they continue searching for the suspect.
