A Washington state community is reeling after a 30-year-old man was accused of brutally killing his own mother inside the condominium they shared.

Antony Ton Le was arrested Tuesday and charged with one count of criminal homicide in the death of his mother, Thuy Nu Thu Ton, according to court records.

Deputies with the King County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call around 2 p.m. at a condominium complex in Auburn. The caller, identified as the condo owner and Le’s roommate, told dispatchers that Ton was on the ground wrapped in blankets and had possibly been assaulted by her son.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the roommate told authorities that Le had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and had stopped taking his medication months earlier. He allegedly described Le as becoming increasingly hostile and prone to violence.

When deputies and medics arrived, they attempted lifesaving measures, but Ton was pronounced dead at 2:09 p.m.

A tactical team secured the residence and located Le in a bedroom. He was taken into custody and transported for questioning.

The condo owner told investigators that when he left for work earlier that day, Ton was sitting on the couch using her phone and Le was believed to be in his room. When he returned home, he noticed a pile of blankets in the living room that did not belong there. After looking underneath, he found Ton lying on her back with her eyes open and arms folded across her chest. He told authorities she had severe facial injuries.

During questioning, Le allegedly admitted that he and his mother argued about school and finances before the situation escalated. According to investigators, he told detectives he placed her in a chokehold and threw her to the ground.

The affidavit alleges that Le then stomped on his mother’s neck multiple times. He reportedly told detectives he was filled with rage and believed he killed her after the third stomp but continued several more times. Authorities say he then placed pillows and blankets over her body. He allegedly said he heard her gurgling for about 30 minutes before she died and later hugged her.

Investigators said Le did not call 911 because he believed the condo owner would return home soon and alert authorities.

Le is being held in the King County Jail on $2 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court Friday.
