A shocking discovery at an Illinois hotel has led to a murder charge after a woman’s body was found inside a dumpster.

Police say the body of 50-year-old Colleen Bagley, of Fox Lake, Illinois, was discovered early in the morning on Feb. 25 behind a hotel in Elk Grove Village. Officers had responded to the property on Landmeier Road around 4:18 a.m. after receiving a report about an unresponsive person.

When authorities arrived, they found the woman dead inside a dumpster.

An autopsy later determined Bagley had suffered multiple sharp force injuries, and officials ruled her death a homicide.

Days later, prosecutors approved a first-degree murder charge against 54-year-old Arturo F. Taylor, also of Fox Lake. According to police, Taylor was Bagley’s boyfriend.

Investigators believe the two were staying at the hotel when an argument broke out in their room. Authorities allege Taylor stabbed Bagley multiple times during the dispute.

Prosecutors say security cameras captured Taylor around 2 a.m. walking toward the dumpsters outside the hotel while carrying what appeared to be a garbage bag.

Bagley’s death has left her family devastated. Her brother, Jason Ehardt, said the loss came as a painful shock.

“I wish we had more time together,” he told reporters. “I’m going to miss her.”

Police say the case appears to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

“The Elk Grove Village Police Department extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” the department said in a statement.

Authorities have not yet announced whether Taylor has entered a plea or hired an attorney to represent him as the case moves forward.
