Cindy Desser (Bensalem Township Police Department)

A Pennsylvania nurse is facing criminal charges after police say she was caught on home surveillance video abusing a medically fragile 3-year-old girl she had been hired to care for.

Cindy Desser, 58, of Bucks County, was arrested after an investigation by Bensalem Township police. According to reports citing a criminal complaint, she has been charged with endangering the welfare of children in a case that has left one family horrified by what they say they discovered inside their own home.

The little girl’s parents had hired Desser through Dynamic Home Health Care as a night nurse for their daughter, who was born prematurely and suffers from serious medical conditions affecting her heart and lungs. Because of Desser’s background, the family believed they had found someone uniquely qualified to care for their child.

The girl’s mother said Desser had two decades of home-care experience, had worked with a child who had the same lung disease, and preferred working nights. To the family, she seemed like the perfect fit.

But police say the reality was something far more disturbing.

According to the family, things took a shocking turn in October 2025 when Desser allegedly showed them a video of herself assaulting another child. The parents said they were baffled by why she would show them that footage, but it pushed them to go back and review their own home surveillance recordings.

What they say they found was terrifying.

According to the complaint, the footage allegedly showed Desser smacking and slamming their daughter while she was supposed to be caring for her overnight. In one alleged incident, she was also seen sleeping while on duty.

The family said one especially upsetting recording showed their daughter pulling out her tracheostomy tube, which helps provide a direct airway to her lungs. Desser was allegedly slow to put it back in, even as the child struggled to breathe. According to reports, she could be heard saying, “You’re the one that did it. I don’t want to hear it.”

The girl’s mother also said she later noticed bruising while changing her daughter’s diaper. A doctor at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia reportedly told her the mark could have been caused by a thumbprint.

For the family, the discovery was devastating.

“Thank God my daughter is so strong,” the mother said, describing the ordeal as horrific and saying it felt like “monsters come out at night.”

The girl’s father said watching the footage was like living through a nightmare. He said their daughter simply sat up and looked at Desser in one incident before being shoved back down, calling the alleged abuse sick and horrible.

As investigators dug deeper, the parents also learned that Desser was already under investigation in connection with another alleged child assault.

Police have warned there may be more victims and urged anyone with concerns about Desser to come forward.

Dynamic Home Health Care told local media that Desser is no longer employed by the agency. The company did not immediately comment further.

Despite everything, the little girl’s parents say their daughter is doing well and continues to defy the odds. They also hope Desser will lose her nursing license.

Desser was arrested on Wednesday, March 25, and remains in custody at the Bucks County Jail after failing to post $2 million bail. Her next court hearing is scheduled for April 7.

  1. I’d have gotten to her first and knocked the devil out if her. She needs the same treatment that she inflicted upon those children. And she’s 58? I’m about to be 74 and she looks older than I look! As we say in Texas, “She’s been ‘rode’ hard and hung out to dry”!
