A heated argument turned into something straight out of a nightmare — and now a New York woman could spend decades behind bars for it.

35-year-old Keyonna Waddell has been found guilty of assault and criminal possession of a weapon after a shocking incident that left her boyfriend permanently maimed. The verdict comes two years after a fight between the couple spiraled into a violent explosion inside the man’s apartment.

According to Raymond Tierney, the confrontation began on March 22, 2024, when Waddell and the victim got into a verbal dispute at his home. After he told her to leave, both of them exited the apartment. The victim later returned home, believing he was alone, and went to sleep.

But he wasn’t.

Prosecutors say the man was suddenly jolted awake by a strange hissing sound. When he looked around, he saw flames inside his bedroom. As he rushed to investigate, he made a horrifying discovery — a lit stick of dynamite burning nearby.

In a desperate attempt to stop what was about to happen, he tried to extinguish it. When that failed, he grabbed the explosive, hoping to throw it out the window before it detonated.

He didn’t make it in time.

The device exploded while still in his hand.

“He felt searing pain and realized that his hand was gone,” Tierney said following the verdict.

The injured man stumbled out to his driveway, where he reportedly saw Waddell running away from the scene on foot.

Doctors later had to surgically remove what remained of his hand, along with part of his arm, due to the devastating injuries caused by the blast.

Investigators also revealed a disturbing pattern leading up to the attack. Authorities say Waddell had allegedly threatened the victim with dynamite multiple times in the months before the explosion. She was arrested the very next day.

Now convicted, Waddell is facing up to 25 years in prison. Her sentencing is scheduled for May 27.
