A quiet, upscale Houston neighborhood has been rocked by a devastating discovery after a family of four was found dead inside their home.

Police say the tragic scene unfolded Monday evening in the River Oaks area, one of the city’s most affluent communities. Officers with the Houston Police Department were called to the home just before 5:30 p.m. for a welfare check after a babysitter raised concerns when she couldn’t reach the family.

When officers entered the million-dollar home, they found two adults and two children dead inside.

Authorities later confirmed the victims were all members of the same family — a father, a pregnant mother, and two young children, ages 4 and 8.

Investigators say the children were found in their beds, and early reports indicate they were last seen alive the day before. The mother had reportedly spent part of Sunday evening having dinner with a relative.

While the investigation is still in its early stages, police believe the case may involve a murder-suicide. However, officials have not yet determined who may have been responsible or released the names of the victims.

Neighbors say the tragedy is unlike anything they’ve ever seen in the area.

“I’ve lived here for 19 years and never seen anything like this,” one resident said, adding that the neighborhood is typically quiet and safe. “It’s just heartbreaking, especially for the children.”
