An Amazon employee has been charged with murder after authorities say he fatally shot a co-worker at an Illinois fulfillment center.
Quentin S. Williams Jr. is accused in the death of 27-year-old Travion R. Taylor, according to the Melrose Park Police Department.
Police said officers responded just after 9 a.m. on June 4 to reports of a shooting inside the controlled-access parking garage at the Amazon Fulfillment Center in the 1800 block of 5th Avenue in Melrose Park.
When officers arrived, they found Taylor suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to Loyola Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to police, early findings from the investigation, including witness interviews, suggested the shooting stemmed from a “domestic-related dispute” involving Williams and another person who was with Taylor at the time.
Authorities said a physical altercation broke out before Williams allegedly pulled out a semi-automatic rifle.
“During a physical altercation, the offender produced a semi-automatic rifle and discharged multiple rounds in the direction of the two individuals, striking the victim in the back,” police said in the release.
Williams allegedly fled the scene after the shooting but was later taken into custody.
He has since been charged with murder.
It was not immediately clear whether Williams has entered a plea or hired an attorney who can speak on his behalf.
ABC 7 Chicago reported that Williams appeared in court Monday and was ordered held while he awaits trial.
