A Georgia man has been convicted more than a year after prosecutors say he violently attacked his romantic partner inside a hotel room when she refused to have sex with him.
Desmond Jamal Camp, 37, was convicted Thursday, June 11, in connection with the April 2025 attack at a Quality Inn in Canton, Georgia, according to the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
Police were called to the hotel on April 30, 2025, after a 911 report of an assault. When Canton Police officers arrived, they found the woman bleeding and partially unclothed, prosecutors said.
Camp fled the hotel after the attack and was arrested while trying to enter an interstate, according to officials.
Investigators said the woman had been staying at the hotel while working a nearby job. She had returned to her room to sleep when Camp allegedly demanded sex.
When she refused, Camp tried to remove her clothes and eventually held a knife to her throat, the woman told police. She suffered cuts to her hand, and prosecutors said blood stained the bed inside the room.
The woman managed to escape while Camp was distracted and ran to the front desk. A hotel employee called 911 and helped hide her in a back office until officers arrived.
When police found her, the woman was wrapped in a blanket because her shirt and shorts had been sliced open, leaving the front of her body exposed, prosecutors said.
Investigators said the woman’s account matched evidence found in the hotel room, including the knife, blood on the bed and cuts on her body.
After a two-day trial, Camp was convicted of family violence aggravated assault and false imprisonment.
He was found not guilty of two additional counts of family violence aggravated assault and one count of family violence battery.
Camp is scheduled to be sentenced later this month.
