Authorities in New York have identified the six people found dead inside an apartment building this week, including four children whose deaths have left neighbors shaken.

The victims were discovered Tuesday, June 23, inside a residence on Harris Avenue in Mechanicville, according to the Mechanicville Police Department.

Police identified them as 64-year-old Amy Steadman, 44-year-old Sarah Myers, 13-year-old Harper Harmon, 11-year-old Hudson Harmon, 10-year-old Gavin Harmon and 10-year-old Gracelynn Harmon.

The heartbreaking discovery was made after officers were called to the apartment for a welfare check.

According to police, Steadman lived in the residence where the bodies were found. She was Myers’ mother and the grandmother of the four children. Myers and her children lived in a separate unit in the same apartment building complex.

Police said investigators are treating the deaths as a criminal investigation while they wait for autopsy results.

“Based on the information currently available, there is no evidence indicating the involvement of any additional individuals,” the department said in a news release. “There remains no known threat to the public.”

The investigation remained active and ongoing Wednesday as police continued working at the John S. Moore apartment complex, where the bodies were discovered.

Authorities have not yet released the cause or manner of death. Police said more information is expected after autopsies are completed and the findings are reviewed.

The deaths have stunned the community, especially with four children among the victims.

Neighbor Amanda Gary told CBS 6 the news was devastating.

“It’s very upsetting knowing there’s four little babies, it’s very upsetting,” Gary said.

Police have not released a possible motive, and no additional suspects have been named as investigators continue trying to piece together what happened inside the Mechanicville apartment.
