A 10-year-old boy is facing serious charges after police say he walked into a Pennsylvania Dollar Tree with a knife, demanded money and stabbed an employee during a chaotic struggle.

The shocking incident happened around 5 p.m. Monday, June 29, at a Dollar Tree in Swatara Township, Dauphin County, near Harrisburg.

According to police, the child entered the discount store carrying a fixed-blade knife and threatened a female employee while ordering her to hand over cash.

Other workers rushed to help their colleague and managed to overpower the boy before officers arrived.

During the confrontation, however, one employee was stabbed multiple times, police said.

The injured worker required medical treatment, but the Swatara Township Police Department did not release details about the person’s injuries or current condition.

Officers took the 10-year-old into custody at the scene. His name has not been released because of his age.

Authorities said the boy has been charged with robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possessing an instrument of crime.

He is being held in a secure juvenile detention facility while awaiting court proceedings.

Police have not revealed what may have led to the alleged robbery attempt or how the child obtained the knife.

Dollar Tree and the Swatara Township Police Department were contacted for additional comment.

The disturbing case comes shortly after another 10-year-old boy was charged with murder in Missouri following the shooting death of a 7-month-old baby.

St. Louis police found Kiyomi Parker suffering from gunshot wounds at a home on June 26. She was rushed to a hospital but later died.

Witnesses reportedly told investigators that the boy picked up a gun and shot the infant, according to court records obtained by First Alert 4.
