A man was simply walking his friend to her car after a night out in Indianapolis when two people allegedly followed them and opened fire, killing them both in a shocking attack.
More than three years later, authorities say they have finally made an arrest.
Noah Brimmage, 24, has been charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of Olivia Katherine Brown, 24, and Darian Jamar Wiley, 27, according to court records.
Brimmage also faces charges of robbery resulting in bodily injury, three counts of battery with a deadly weapon and criminal recklessness.
The deadly encounter unfolded on May 6, 2023, near 21st Street in Indianapolis. Brown and Wiley had spent the evening out together before returning to Wiley’s home, where he reportedly began walking Brown back to her vehicle.
Surveillance footage allegedly showed two people trailing closely behind them.
A neighbor later recalled seeing the suspects “walking very quickly after them” before gunfire suddenly erupted.
“The next thing you know, you hear shots,” the neighbor told WTHR. “Darian is face down in the street, dead.”
Brown managed to reach her car and get inside, apparently attempting to speed away from the attackers. She was also shot and killed before she could escape.
The brutal double murder devastated both families and left loved ones waiting years for answers.
“It’s very difficult to be trapped in this space where you don’t know what’s going to happen, and it feels like there’s no justice,” Brown’s sister, Hannah Carter, told WXIN.
She said the passage of time made it feel as though the world had moved on while Brown and Wiley’s families remained stuck in grief.
Brimmage was arrested this week in connection with the killings. Authorities have not publicly said whether another suspect has been identified or could face charges.
According to reports, the probable cause affidavit also links Brimmage to several other violent incidents that allegedly occurred around the same period.
Investigators reportedly suspect he drove a getaway vehicle following another shooting less than 24 hours after Brown and Wiley were killed. He was also accused of setting a home and vehicle on fire and firing at people as they attempted to escape.
Brimmage later pleaded guilty to arson and criminal recklessness in connection with those crimes and is already serving a prison sentence, according to WXIN.
Brown was remembered as a caring therapist who devoted her life to helping others.
Her obituary said she loved cats, working out, vacationing in the sun, shopping, candy and tattoos. She was also an avid reader who enjoyed learning how to cook.
“Liv was full of life and loved helping others,” her obituary stated.
Wiley was remembered as an outgoing music lover who enjoyed trying to play guitar, golfing and spending time with his friends.
“He made sure you laughed,” his obituary said, describing him as “the light of the party.”
The charges against Brimmage are allegations. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
