A man has remained in a coma for more than a week after police say he was brutally attacked without warning inside an Atlanta Krispy Kreme.
Now, investigators are asking the public to help identify the man seen in surveillance footage who they believe carried out the disturbing assault.
Atlanta police were called to the doughnut shop in the 600 block of Evans Street SW at approximately 3:50 a.m. on July 21.
When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from multiple injuries. The victim was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he remained unconscious one week after the attack.
Police described the incident as an “unprovoked assault,” suggesting the victim may have been attacked without any apparent argument or confrontation leading up to the violence.
Authorities have not released the victim’s identity or provided additional details about the nature of his injuries.
Investigators have released surveillance images of a man believed to be connected to the attack, hoping someone will recognize him and come forward.
The footage shows the person police are working to identify, but authorities have not publicly disclosed whether the suspect and victim knew each other or what may have motivated the assault.
The case has taken on added urgency as the victim continues fighting for his life while detectives search for the person responsible.
