A South Carolina man is facing charges after police say he stole lottery tickets from a gas station while he was there for a job interview, then tried to cash them in at several nearby stores.
Antonio Levon Ricardo Stewart, 36, was arrested on Aug. 25, more than a year after the alleged theft, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
Authorities say the incident happened on May 6, 2025, at a Murphy USA in Florence.
Stewart had reportedly gone to the gas station for a job interview when he allegedly stole an entire pack of South Carolina Education Lottery scratch-off tickets.
According to arrest documents, the theft was captured on surveillance video.
Investigators say Stewart later tried to redeem tickets from the stolen pack at three different stores in the Florence area.
He was allegedly successful at least once, cashing in one of the stolen tickets for a $5 prize.
A warrant for Stewart’s arrest was issued later that same month, but authorities did not take him into custody until Aug. 25, 2026.
Stewart has now been charged with three counts related to intent to defraud and counterfeit game tickets, according to SLED.
Following his arrest, he was booked into the Florence County Detention Center.
The case remains under investigation.
