An Oregon father will spend more than 30 years in prison after admitting that he fatally stabbed his 9-year-old son with a spear.
Levi Higgins-Green, 38, pleaded guilty in August to multiple charges, including second-degree murder, strangulation involving domestic violence, two counts of criminal mischief and three assault charges, according to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office.
This week, Judge Martin Stone sentenced Higgins-Green to a combined minimum of 30 years and eight months behind bars.
Under Oregon law, he will be eligible for parole after serving that minimum sentence.
The deadly incident happened in September 2025 at a home off Cape Arago Highway in Charleston, an unincorporated community in Coos County.
When deputies first arrived, they were told the boy’s sister had accidentally stabbed him while the children were playing with a spear.
That explanation quickly unraveled.
Investigators later determined that the child had actually been stabbed by his father.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the home, while paramedics desperately tried to save the boy.
He was rushed to Bay Area Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The case remained under investigation for about a week before detectives executed a search warrant at the home in October 2025.
Authorities said evidence found inside the residence showed that Higgins-Green was responsible for killing his son.
Police have not publicly revealed a motive.
Higgins-Green was initially charged with one count of second-degree murder, but additional charges were later filed as investigators uncovered more disturbing allegations inside the home.
According to the sheriff’s office, detectives also found evidence of domestic violence involving other adults and children who lived at the residence.
Authorities said those incidents had allegedly been happening for years.
The sheriff’s office did not identify the surviving family members, saying their names were withheld at their request.
