A North Carolina man who disappeared with his estranged wife is accused of killing her and then himself after police discovered their bodies in the woods with gunshot wounds Friday.
The tragic discovery comes after an Ashanti Alert was issued for Cynthia Gobble, 60, on Thursday with her 59-year-old husband, Greg Goble, identified as a suspect in her disappearance.
The Davie County Sheriff’s Office had been searching for the Gobbles since and officers eventually located both bodies in a wooded area in Iredell County.
Officials said the two were going through a divorce at the time of their disappearance, with evidence suggesting that Greg killed his wife before turning the gun on himself, WFMY News reported.
After conducting a welfare check on Cynthia in her Mocksville home at around 10 p.m. on Thursday, police found that the woman was gone — but her purse, wallet and insulin were left behind.
The search also showed evidence that Cynthia was forced out of her home against her will, investigators said.
Greg was labeled a person of interest in the disappearance, but officials and family members could not locate the man or his white food truck, which investigators believed he was driving on the day the couple vanished.
An Ashanti Alert — similar to an Amber Alert but for adults — was issued for Cynthia and Greg was identified as a suspect in her disappearance.
The alert noted that there was evidence of “physical endangerment, abduction or kidnapping.”
On Friday, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office confirmed it found Greg’s food truck in a wooded area off Sheffield Road, with two bodies located nearby.
Investigators confirmed that the bodies belonged to Cynthia and Greg, and said the murder weapon was found nearby as well.
“Iredell County and Davie County detectives are currently processing the scene,” the local sheriff’s office said in a statement. “We do not suspect that any other persons were involved in this incident and there is no continuing danger to members of the public.”
