A Florida woman who careened into the side of a Popeyes restaurant in Miami with her BMW convertible has been cited for driving too fast for conditions and careless driving, according to a statement from police on Tuesday. An investigation into the incident remains open.
Video of the July 14 crash has circulated on social media since Sunday, when, according to the Miami Police Department, the woman — who police have not yet identified publicly — crashed into the Popeyes on Seventh Avenue in Liberty City. The woman was not accused of being intoxicated.
Police explained Tuesday that “fortunately there were no serious reported injuries however, the investigation remains open as to the circumstances that led up to the crash” and that “the female driver was still on scene during officers arrival.”
“The officers analyzed the female in an effort to identify signs of intoxication which were not present to include the smell of alcohol / drugs in or around the vehicle,” a police spokesperson confirmed, adding that the roads appeared to have been wet at the time due to possible rain and that once a crash report is formally filed, there could be additional citations.

The aftermath of the crash was recorded on a witness’ cellphone — videos have been reposted repeatedly, racking up views on social media including on platforms like TikTok and Reddit.
In the video, the woman can be heard asking those filming her for help.
“Can you get me out of here, please? I can’t get charged with that,” she is heard saying.
“I can’t go to jail, I can’t go to jail. I won’t last there, you know?” she continues.
As she hurriedly gathered her belongings from the vehicle, someone who appears to be recording tells her to “leave that car” and “f— the keys” before she asks, “Where do I go?”
The woman’s phone is heard ringing in the video.
“Hello? Yeah, I just crashed I gotta go I’ll call you later bye,” the woman can be heard saying.
