Things got wild on the Las Vegas Strip this weekend after an unexpected fire lit up the night sky near the Aria Resort and Planet Hollywood. Witnesses say it all started with a loud “boom” — then flames, flashing lights, and a quick getaway.
According to stunned bystanders, the chaos unfolded late Saturday, June 14. People nearby said they heard what sounded like an explosion, and then spotted a palm tree fully engulfed in flames right outside the Aria. Moments later, a white SUV was seen speeding away from the scene.
Social media exploded with dramatic clips of the blaze. In one video, a fiery tree is seen burning as cops and emergency responders swarm the area. Another clip shows a white vehicle driving off — with the poster claiming it was the car behind the fire. “Big explosion right in front of the Aria,” another person wrote online.
Las Vegas police later confirmed the details. In a statement, they said a white SUV had been driving erratically before “an unknown occupant likely threw fireworks, causing a tree to catch fire.” The Clark County Fire Department arrived quickly and managed to put it out before it could spread.
Thankfully, no one was hurt and no businesses were damaged, according to the LVMPD. But the suspects are still on the run, and investigators are working to figure out exactly what happened.
Meanwhile, the fire came just days after another terrifying incident on the Strip — a shooting on June 8 that left two people dead while livestreaming. The victims, Tanisha and Rodney Finley, were gunned down before the suspected shooter, Manuel D. Ruiz, turned himself in the next day.
“Everybody stay safe out here in Las Vegas, baby. This was crazy,” one TikTok user warned after witnessing Saturday’s fire. “Never in my life would I have ever expected this.”
