A young Texas mother is wanted by police after allegedly scalding her 8-month-old son to death in a hot bath—reportedly because she was angry he soiled his diaper.
Jatoria Cleamons, 21, is now facing serious charges of manslaughter and injury to a child in the death of her baby boy, Courtlyn Cleamons. The Hooks Police Department announced the charges on Saturday and said they are actively searching for her. Anyone who sees Cleamons is urged to call 911 immediately.
The horrifying incident began on February 4, when emergency crews responded to a home in Hooks, Texas, for a medical call. According to local reports, paramedics were performing CPR on baby Courtlyn when officers arrived. Tragically, the infant was later pronounced dead.
An autopsy from the Southwest Institute of Forensics confirmed the baby died from thermal injuries—specifically scalding. That prompted police to launch a full-blown homicide investigation.
Detectives say Cleamons admitted during questioning that she had bathed Courtlyn in extremely hot water about two weeks earlier, while the two were living at a residence in Texarkana. Her reason? She was reportedly “frustrated” that the baby had an accident in his diaper.
Despite the horrific circumstances, Cleamons posted several emotional tributes to her son on Facebook after his death. “Rest in love my baby,” she captioned a video montage of photos. In another heartbreaking message, she wrote: “I love you so much and I miss you so much my heart is so broken. I will always think about you. Rest in Heaven my love.”
Courtlyn’s obituary described him as a joyful, loving baby who left a lasting impression on his family in his short time on earth.
Warrants for Cleamons’ arrest were issued on Friday, but as of Sunday, she remained on the run. Authorities believe she may still be in the area and are asking the public for help locating her.
This disturbing case has shaken the Texarkana community, and police say the investigation is ongoing.
