A Nevada woman will spend more than a decade behind bars after she admitted to killing her boyfriend during a violent confrontation sparked by a tampon she found in his trash.

Julie Bush, 31, pleaded guilty in March to voluntary manslaughter and DUI stemming from the May 2024 incident. On June 17, a Las Vegas judge sentenced her to 12 to 35 years in prison.

According to court records and police reports cited by KLAS and the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Bush became enraged after discovering another woman’s tampon in her boyfriend’s trash can. The man, 51-year-old Richard Penardo Jr., was confronted by Bush during a heated altercation outside his home.

Bush claimed she got into her car to leave, but Penardo allegedly began swinging a steel chain at her vehicle, shattering the windows. Prosecutors say Bush then hit the gas, accelerating toward him. Penardo was struck by the car and thrown into a brick wall. He died the following day from his injuries.

In court, Bush showed remorse but said she couldn’t undo what had happened.

“I love him very much,” she told the judge. “I’m sorry that he passed away and I wish I could change it, but I can’t, and I know there’s not a sentence in the world that’s going to make anybody satisfied.”

Bush’s public defender noted that she is the mother of a 5-year-old child.

Don’t worry, 10 years in Amerika really means 4 to 7 (at the most).
All in all, not bad for killing someone!!
