A Michigan woman is facing a first-degree murder charge after allegedly returning to her workplace and fatally stabbing her manager in a shocking act of workplace violence.

Authorities say 26-year-old Afeni Badu Muhammad of Eastpointe was sent home early from her shift at a McDonald’s on the morning of July 11 following a workplace dispute. But prosecutors allege she didn’t stay gone for long.

According to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, Muhammad later returned through the employee entrance wearing a mask and attacked her manager, Jennifer Harris, stabbing her multiple times inside the restaurant.

The brutal scene unfolded in front of customers — one of whom was in the drive-thru lane and tried to intervene by firing a legal weapon through the window in an attempt to stop the attack. Despite the chaos, Muhammad reportedly managed to flee to her car, but the armed customer followed her and held her at gunpoint until police arrived.

Harris, 39, was a mother of six and had worked at McDonald’s for 15 years. Her death has devastated the local community and sparked outrage over the senseless violence.

“It is deeply troubling that we continue to see violence used as a response to conflict,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement. “How have we reached a point where the solution to a disagreement is to pick up a weapon instead of resolving it peacefully?”

Hundreds gathered outside the McDonald’s days after the attack for a balloon release honoring Harris’s memory. Her daughter, Anttenisha Griffin, spoke through tears to CBS News, saying, “It hurts so bad that my mama is not here.”

In the wake of her death, Divine Restoration Ministries in Detroit launched a GoFundMe in partnership with Harris’s family to support her six children. “Jennifer’s legacy of strength, compassion, and dedication will continue to guide and uplift her children,” the page reads, adding that funds will go toward education, personal development, and long-term care.

Muhammad has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder and carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent. Her bond has been set at $25 million, and she’s due back in court on July 23.
