A California woman was killed on a Kentucky interstate after she was struck by a vehicle while trying to rescue her pet, authorities said.

Morabia Siddhi Suresh, 33, of Fremont, California, died after the tragic crash on Interstate 75 in Rockcastle County, Kentucky, on Monday, June 8, according to Kentucky State Police.

Trooper Scottie Pennington said investigators determined Suresh had been involved in an earlier crash before the fatal collision. The exact time and location of that initial crash were not immediately clear.

During that earlier incident, Suresh’s pet escaped from her vehicle. As she tried to rescue the animal, she walked into the travel portion of the roadway, police said.

That is when she ended up in the path of a Chevrolet Malibu and was struck.

Suresh was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Police said there is no indication that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Suresh is being remembered as a devoted pet mom and animal lover. Her social media showed her support for animal causes, including a donation she made in February 2025 to The Voice of Stray Dogs, a prominent dog rescue organization in India.

The donation was made in honor of the birthday of her pet, Penelope, who was lovingly known as “Penny.”

“Siddhi, a huge dog lover, absolutely adores Penny and calls her ‘the happiest accident of her life,’” the rescue organization wrote at the time. “She cannot imagine life any other way.”

Authorities have not publicly said whether anyone has been arrested or charged in connection with the collision.

Kentucky State Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
