Authorities in New Hampshire are investigating the deaths of four family members in what is being treated as a suspected murder-suicide.

According to a statement released Monday, Aug. 18, the New Hampshire State Police responded to a residence on Moharimet Drive in Madbury, where they discovered the bodies of two adults and two children. A third child, a toddler, was found alive and unharmed.

Attorney General John Formella told WBZ-TV that the tragic discovery came after a 911 caller reported “several people were deceased” inside the home. When troopers arrived, they located the caller, entered the residence, and found the victims. All four appeared to have died from gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities and ages have not yet been released.

Neighbors expressed shock over the deaths. Bevy Ketel, who lives nearby, said the family seemed “perfect” and shared a memory of her daughter once giving one of the young victims an American Girl doll. “It’s so sad to think that that little girl is gone,” she said. Ketel also described the father as “well-known in town” and “part of the fabric of the community.”

Authorities have assured residents there is no known threat to the public but warned that a heightened police presence will remain in the area as the investigation continues.
