Harry Burdick Jr., 60, is facing two counts of felony bigamy after a months-long investigation by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies say they began looking into Burdick back in April after receiving a tip that something wasn’t adding up.
According to online court records, Burdick obtained a marriage license and wed a woman in Davidson County in January 2023. But authorities allege he also married two other women — one in Guilford County and another in Lincoln County — without divorcing any of them. Investigators say his motive was clear: “financial motivation and personal gain.”
Neighbors are stunned. “I can’t imagine anybody even wanting to do that,” Burdick’s neighbor Roger Walser told WSOC. “It just don’t make sense. To me it don’t. One woman is all any man needs.”
Authorities believe Burdick followed a disturbing pattern — marrying a woman, benefiting financially, and then moving on to the next. Investigators are also looking into claims from a possible fourth victim who says she was romantically involved with him as well.
Burdick was arrested on Aug. 22 but later released on a written promise to appear in court. His first court date is set for Sept. 22 at the Davidson County Courthouse.
In North Carolina, bigamy is a felony that carries a potential sentence of three to 12 months behind bars.
