A heartbreaking tragedy is unfolding in Brooklyn, NY, where police are investigating the death of a 1-year-old boy as a homicide.

Anthony Casey was found unconscious and unresponsive inside a New York City Housing Authority complex on Thatford Avenue and Newport Street in Brownsville just before 5 p.m. Friday. Officers responded to a 911 call reporting a child in distress.

Emergency medical crews transported the toddler to One Brooklyn Health–Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

The New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has ruled the death a homicide. The autopsy revealed that Anthony suffered blunt force injuries to his torso.

So far, no arrests have been made. Police have not identified any suspects or persons of interest. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not released information about who was present in the apartment or who made the emergency call.

The medical examiner’s office has not responded to media requests for further comment.
