A 25-year-old man in North Carolina is facing two felony charges after allegedly assaulting emergency room staff and exposing them to HIV in a disturbing incident that took place earlier this year.
Kameron Gilchrist was arrested and charged with two counts of assault causing physical injury to emergency medical personnel. The charges stem from an incident that occurred on March 21 at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh, according to an arrest warrant obtained by People.
While receiving treatment at the hospital, Gilchrist allegedly sprayed his own HIV-positive blood into the eyes of two healthcare workers—a male and a female—who were performing their duties at the time. Both victims reportedly experienced irritation in their eyes following the attack.
The warrant states the assault was done “unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously.” It’s unclear what led up to the incident or why charges weren’t filed until six months later.
If convicted, Gilchrist could face up to 39 months in prison for each count. Though the charges are classified as low-level felonies in North Carolina, the nature of the allegations has raised concerns about safety for healthcare workers, especially amid a nationwide rise in violence against medical staff.
A spokesperson for UNC Rex Health declined to comment on the specific case but acknowledged the growing issue, saying: “Unfortunately, violent situations and threats of violence against health workers have become more common across the country.”
Gilchrist is currently being held at the Wake County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond. He has not entered a plea and is expected to appear in court on December 8.

The charge should be attempted murder.
Piece of trash
Demon.
That is premeditated murder
