A Texas man is heading to prison for decades after a violent and terrifying campaign of abuse against his ex-girlfriend.
Joshua Bermea, 20, pleaded guilty to burglary of a habitation with intent to commit a felony, along with a separate drug charge. A judge quickly handed down a massive sentence — 40 years for the burglary charge and another 10 years for the drug offense, to be served back-to-back.
That means 50 years behind bars.
Prosecutors say the case dates back to the fall of 2023, after the victim ended their relationship. Instead of moving on, Bermea allegedly spiraled — harassing, threatening, and eventually attacking her.
On September 22, the woman told police Bermea followed her in his car while calling her and making threats, even saying he would intentionally crash into her vehicle.
In one chilling message, he warned: “I’m gonna make you live in hell.”
The threats didn’t stop.
Authorities say that on November 8, Bermea bombarded the victim with around 250 text messages in a single day — many of them violent and disturbing. Prosecutors say he threatened to kill her, harm her family, and damage her property.
One message read: “I’m gonna hurt you… just wait.”
The next day, things turned physical.
According to police, Bermea forced his way into the woman’s home without permission. When she told him to leave, he allegedly grabbed her phone and launched a brutal attack.
Officials say he slapped and backhanded her repeatedly, shoved her to the ground, and punched her in the body and legs. At one point, he allegedly wrapped both hands around her neck and choked her, cutting off her ability to breathe.
The violence was so severe that the victim temporarily lost her hearing in one ear after being struck.
After the assault, Bermea reportedly smashed her phone before leaving — but the threats kept coming.
“I’ll be back one night to finish,” he allegedly texted her afterward.
Now, with a 50-year sentence hanging over him, that promise won’t become reality.
