A Florida woman is facing serious charges after allegedly poisoning an 11-month-old baby with antifreeze while babysitting him earlier this year.

Anna Adamo, 59, of Okeechobee, was arrested in Georgia earlier this month and extradited back to Florida. She was formally charged on October 11 with first-degree attempted murder, aggravated child abuse, and poisoning with intent to kill or injure, according to court records.

The alleged incident took place on February 12. Investigators say the baby boy was dropped off at Adamo’s home at 9:30 a.m. in “perfect health.” Hours later, doctors diagnosed him with ethylene glycol poisoning — the main chemical found in antifreeze.

The child’s condition quickly worsened. According to an affidavit, he required CPR and life support and was transferred between three hospitals. Doctors are still evaluating the extent of damage to his kidneys.

Adamo told investigators the baby was never out of her sight, never around other adults, and that she did not bring him into the garage where the antifreeze was stored.

The child’s grandmother first noticed something was wrong when she picked him up later that afternoon. She told police he seemed unusually tired. The boy’s mother also became alarmed when he appeared limp and lethargic and couldn’t hold his head up.

The situation escalated when the infant began vomiting a “clear, sticky, odd-smelling” substance. He was rushed to a local ER and then to another hospital, where he went into cardiac arrest.

Adamo was released from jail on October 15 after posting a $600,000 bond.

It is not yet clear whether she has hired an attorney to represent her.
