A Mississippi mother is facing drug charges after her two young sons tragically drowned in a swimming pool.
Authorities in Gautier responded to a home on Monday, Oct. 20, after receiving reports of two unresponsive children near a pool. The boys, ages 2 and 5, were rushed to the hospital but were pronounced dead, according to local police and the Jackson County coroner.
Police later arrested the children’s mother, 36-year-old Amber Goldman. She has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, with additional charges possible. Goldman is currently being held in Jackson County jail, and it’s unclear if she has entered a plea or retained an attorney.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy that has deeply affected our community,” Gautier Police Chief David Bever said in a statement. “Our hearts are with the family, friends, and first responders impacted by this heartbreaking loss. We ask everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers as investigators continue to seek answers.”
The coroner confirmed the boys died by drowning, but authorities have not shared details on how they ended up in the pool or where their mother was at the time.
