A Palo Alto, California man got quite the shock when he returned home over the weekend — only to find a burglar sitting calmly at his kitchen table, sipping a glass of his wine.
The bizarre break-in happened around noon on Sunday in the city’s quiet Midtown neighborhood, near Bryant Street and Oregon Avenue, police said.
According to the Palo Alto Police Department, the homeowner, a man in his 70s, had gone out earlier that morning. When he came back, he walked into his kitchen and found a stranger making herself comfortable — drinking his wine as if she lived there.
Startled but composed, the man told the woman to leave immediately. After she walked out, he called police to report the burglary. Officers arrived quickly and found that the house had been rummaged through.
Police searched the neighborhood and located the suspect nearby. She was detained without incident and later identified as 31-year-old Sabina Blanco of San Francisco.
Blanco was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on multiple charges, including felony residential burglary, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor battery on a police officer after allegedly spitting on one of the responding officers.
