‘Intoxicated’ Woman Crashes Car and Leaves Injured Baby Behind in Shocking Incident

Authorities say a woman has been arrested after crashing her car in Northern California and walking away from the scene, leaving behind an injured 1-year-old child.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Dublin shared details about the shocking incident on Facebook, along with photos from the crash site. According to their post, officers later found the baby, who is expected to be okay.

“Driver arrested after crashing and walking away!” the CHP wrote. “Thanks to a thorough investigation and questioning, this pedestrian was contacted on Interstate 580 after walking away from an earlier crash.”

During the investigation, officers learned that a one-year-old child had been left at the crash site. “The saddest part of the incident is a one-year-old child was left at the scene,” the post said. “Officers made contact, and after questioning the intoxicated woman, they backtracked to the scene and located the injured child.”

Thankfully, officials confirmed the baby will recover. The woman, whose name has not been released, is now facing multiple charges.

The CHP did not provide details about what caused the crash or confirm the woman’s relationship to the child. However, they used the post to remind drivers about the dangers of impaired driving.

“Driving under the influence causes major judgment issues—not only do you put yourself at risk, but you also endanger others,” the agency wrote. “Impairment is not limited to alcohol. Prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and cannabis products can all affect a driver’s ability to operate a vehicle safely.”

The CHP closed the post with an important reminder: “Never drive under the influence. Make responsible choices behind the wheel.”

The California Highway Patrol’s Dublin office has not released additional details about the investigation.
