A Michigan car dealership became the scene of a deadly crime when a man allegedly dissatisfied with his purchase reportedly shot two men before robbing the business.

Authorities in Macomb County say 46-year-old Terrance Sandles, a Texas man staying at a hotel in Romulus, is facing multiple charges in connection with the November 7 incident at Star Auto in Shelby Township. Police say Sandles had recently bought a 2007 GMC Hummer for $3,000 and believed the vehicle was a “lemon.”

According to Shelby Township Police Chief Robert Shelide, Sandles went to the dealership to confront owner Marvan Batoo, 40, over the purchase. Surveillance footage captured the argument before Sandles allegedly opened fire, killing Batoo and 48-year-old customer Ghaith Baban, who happened to be in a meeting with the owner at the time.

After the shootings, Sandles reportedly stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the dealership and fled. Police say license plate reader cameras helped track the getaway vehicle and ultimately led them to Sandles at a hotel the next day, where data from his cellphone confirmed his location.

Investigators recovered two guns from his hotel room, one believed to be the murder weapon, along with the allegedly stolen cash and a large quantity of cocaine.

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido confirmed that Sandles was arrested and booked into the Macomb County Jail, where he is being held without bond. He faces two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of armed robbery, multiple firearm charges, and drug-related charges.

Sandles was arraigned in 41A District Court in Macomb County on Monday. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 24.
